The University of Auckland is seeking to appoint an inspirational academic leader with outstanding interpersonal skills, and a strong academic of business background to lead one of its largest faculties, and New Zealand's leading Business School, in the next stage of its development.

The ideal candidate will be ambitious for the future of the Business School, bringing strong strategic, management and financial acumen along with the ability to support and lead innovative thinking and growth. A visionary, bold in his or her thinking, the Dean will have a sound understanding of the challenges of leading a professional, multi-disciplinary, research-led, academic faculty in a highly competitive international environment. A true leader, the Dean will recognise that people are the Faculty's greatest asset. She/he will continue to promote a culture of collegiality in which both academic and professional staff are inspired and enabled to achieve at the highest level.

An accomplished relationship builder, the Dean will demonstrate a commitment to cross-faculty, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and a track record of leading meaningful engagement with external stakeholders, particularly the business community. He/she will be expected to actively grow the school's philanthropic base and to manage the relationships with an existing portfolio of major donors, including individuals, trusts and corporates.

International benchmarking identifies the Business School as central to one of the world's best University-based innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystems. The University is committed to supporting the Business School's strategy of developing and embedding these capabilities more widely across the University.

The Dean will continue the drive for innovative pedagogy, further developing flexible models of learning across a range of award and non-award programmes that embrace the opportunity created by the unknown future of work.

The Dean will be dedicated to Māori development through teaching, learning and entrepreneurship programmes and through encouraging partnerships that acknowledge the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi.

Reporting to the Vice-Chancellor, the successful candidate will ideally have an international research reputation and academic credentials or alternatively a record of leadership in business, and a strong interest in the academic affairs of the University. The Dean will have the knowledge and expertise to lead the growth of the Faculty's research excellence and generate external funding opportunities through innovative thinking and the creation of strong relationships with key private and public sector partners, nationally and internationally.

With outstanding personal and professional credibility, the successful candidate will demonstrate the insight, experience and commitment to lead equity initiatives.
