Job Summary
The Executive Director of Career Development leads the career development and placement experience for the students of the Miami Business School graduate programs, both locally and nationally.  The Executive Director is primarily responsible for: (1) developing and leading a concierge-advising effort to provide effective counseling and career preparation for all graduate students; (2) increasing the visibility and reputation of Miami Business School among prospective employers to attract the best available employment opportunities for students; (3) managing student placement outcomes and employer outreach; and (4) leading the Ziff Graduate Career Center in support of the mission of Miami Business School.

Key Contributions

·         Develops a strategic plan to elevate the profile of the Ziff Graduate Career Center in conjunction with Miami Business School.  Leads strategic planning, establishes the center’s short- and long-term goals, ensures that day-to-day operations are aligned with specified goals, assesses programs, services and student employment outcomes in terms of metrics including costs and benefits, participation, cost effectiveness, etc.

·         Demonstrates the ability to manage and lead staff to execute a strategic plan and implement key performance indicators to measure success.   Oversees and strategically supports a career development staff who will advise, counsel and mentor students.  Leads and mentors a team of career professionals as a cohesive team within the Miami Business School.

·         Maximizes efforts and expands connections with employers and external constituents to create and sustain excellent internship and employment opportunities for students.

·         Creates and implements innovative and relevant programs to enhance student career readiness and to expand the Miami Business School brand regionally, nationally, and internationally. Works in partnership with faculty, alumni relations, and other MBS constituencies to maximize the impact of curricular, co-curricular, and extra-curricular career efforts.

·         Implements effective data collection and reporting systems, including but not limited to those for rankings and accreditation purposes.

·         Uses predictive analytics to determine employer hiring trends, shifts in demand for certain degrees, and professional skills needed to succeed in an evolving global market and integrates data  intelligence into strategy.

·         Skillfully and creatively employs marketing, social media, and web-related communications to enhance the Center and student outcomes.

·         Develops and directs an innovative array of programs and communications related to career exploration, planning, and development. The focus of these efforts is to maximize student engagement and career outcomes.  Carries out strategies, projects and events in the verticals of career education programs, career advising, recruiting technology, employer relations, and alumni services.

·         Manages the office’s budget and other resources, oversees expenditures, resolves budget discrepancies, reallocates funds as necessary to ensure that the Center’s operations remain within budget, and advocates for additional resources as warranted.

·         Travel requirement:  15 percent - Local, regional and international employer trips.

Professional Qualifications

·         Demonstrates a strong and thorough understanding of business development, student and employer needs in recruiting and the ability to engage and lead efforts to support both students and employers.  Demonstrates strong presentation skills to garner the confidence of and establish and maintain rapport with students, alumni, employers, and other members of the Miami Business School community.  Strong interpersonal and communications skills (both oral and written).

·         Demonstrated expertise in cutting-edge career development models, career assessments, career counseling, career placement, employment trends, HR and legal issues in employment, and employer engagement and networks.

·         Demonstrated ability to think strategically, act collaboratively, and lead organizational change, coupled with a track record of experience developing and supervising professional staff.

·         Strong ability to exercise independent decision-making and handle complex, confidential issues in a fast paced, demanding, changing environment.

·         A strong understanding of enterprise platforms/technology for recruiting and national business practices is essential.

·         A strong portfolio of communication skills, including presentation, advocacy, and executive presence.

·         Strong analytic and technology skills

·         Demonstrated ability to create and maintain the necessary «ecosystem» of student needs, employer opportunities, alumni engagement, and faculty involvement

·         History of ownership of and accountability for results in employer opportunities, student placement and faculty/alumni engagement

·         Robust corporate and recruiter network and the demonstrated ability to create, nurture, and maintain these relationships

·         An entrepreneurial and problem-solving spirit


·         A bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in a business or related subject area is required.

·         Eight or more years of relevant business or career services industry experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
