Research line of the postdoctoral studies
A business model explains how companies generate income. The idea behind this explanation comprehensively covers every aspect involved in the value creation process from defining clients and their products/services to how this value is created and delivered. Digitalization is the transformation of the value creation process and value itself by using modern ICT related applications with the aim to gain benefit (e.g. competitive advantage, efficiency, revenue/profit, market size). Digitalization encompasses various concepts, including the applications of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), Augmented Reality, 3D printing, robotics, Industry 4.0, big data (the list is not limited). The implementation of these solutions for processes, products and services drives the change in the existing business model of the company, as technology leads innovation. Some companies have been successful in applying innovative technologies (Amazon, Apple, Google, etc.), but in general it remains vague what, when and how to do to benefit from it. The aim of the particular postdoctoral studies is to review the business model innovation caused by digitalization from various theoretical perspectives (e.g. dynamic capabilities, organizational learning, networking/M&A, change management). Research approaches are based on traditional quantitative and qualitative or new modern settings. Widely used business model innovation in the form of recombination of existing components is not the main focus here as long as it does not contain any digitalization.
