Job description | Lecturer / University lecturer in Accounting (tenure track) The Department of Accounting and Commercial Law at Hanken School of Economics invites applications for the position of Lecturer or University lecturer in Accounting (tenure track). The position is at the Helsinki campus and the contract is permanent, starting August 1, 2024, or according to an agreement. We are specifically interested in applicants with good teaching ability in external accounting in English. Hanken School of Economics is a leading, internationally accredited business school, recognized for its international orientation and outstanding research quality in proportion to its size. Teaching and Research in Accounting at Hanken The teaching in our major centers on four themes: Financial accounting and reporting; Managerial accounting; Sustainability reporting; and Data-Driven Decision-Making in Accounting. Responsibilities The lecturer/university lecturer is responsible for teaching, supervising, and carrying out research. The teaching and supervision in this position is in English and mainly in Helsinki, but part of it may be at the Vaasa campus. The teaching focuses on financial accounting and constitutes an important part of Hanken School of Economics' new Bachelor in Business programme. The responsibilities include:
The full-time position has an annual working time of 1612 hours. During the academic year, it is expected that a minimum average of three days per week is spent at the office in Helsinki to actively contribute to the research and teaching environment. Teaching tasks are in general allocated based on the curriculum needs of the subject and by considering relevant own expertise.
Requirements 1) Lecturer (teaching track) The requirements for a lecturer are
Experience in research work and scientific publications, experience of developing courses and teaching for different learning environments, and pedagogical training are considered merits. Skills in Swedish language is considered a merit. When assessing and comparing applicants’ merits, the emphasis will be on a versatile and broad teaching experience in external accounting, in addition to various course types and learning environments. Experience of research-driven development of teaching, administrative tasks related to teaching, good collaborative skills, and experience of teaching in English are also of great importance. The most merited applicants will be invited for an interview and teaching demonstration.
2) University lecturer (teaching track) The requirements for university lecturer are
Scientific publications, pedagogical leadership, development of teaching material, participation in administrative tasks at the program, department, school or university level, and activities in projects are considered merits. Skills in Swedish language is considered a merit. When assessing and comparing applicants’ merits, the emphasis will be on good knowledge about the teaching area, good teaching skills and comprehensive experience from teaching in English. Experience of research-driven development of teaching, administrative tasks related to teaching, and good collaborative skills are also of great importance. The most merited applicants will be invited for an interview and teaching demonstration.
Salary The salary is based on the university salary system in Finland. The exact salary level depends on the qualifications and performance. The annual salary range for a lecturer starts from around 50.000 euros and for a university lecturer from around 56.000 euros (including holiday contributions). The salary level can be higher for candidates with extensive merits (research, teaching, activity in the scientific community and/or societal impact). In addition, the employment includes occupational healthcare as well as pension contributions. Hanken rewards excellence in teaching and research.
