Job description | Are you our next Dean of Education or Dean of Research? Hanken School of Economics is one of the leading business schools in the Nordic countries. It is located in Finland, with campuses in Helsinki and Vaasa. Hanken offers a range of B.Sc., M.Sc., EMBA, PhD, and Executive Development programmes taught mainly in English and Swedish. Hanken has 2 725 Bachelor and Master’s students, and 118 Doctoral students. The School has close ties to the business community and an active alumni network with over 13 800 alumni working in more than 70 countries. The School is accredited by AACSB, AMBA, and EQUIS. The mission of Hanken is to create new knowledge and educate responsible professionals for the global economy and changing society. The Master’s programme was ranked 62 in the Masters in Management by Financial Times in 2022. Hanken is also recognized for its research quality, its international orientation, and its focus on sustainability. Hanken now invites external and internal applications for the roles of Deans (Vice Rector) of Education and Research. The term of the appointments is three years: August 1, 2023-July 31, 2026. The new Deans will be working alongside Rector and other members of the leadership team to further develop Hanken in the years ahead. The new Deans will be joining at a key time for our business school, as Hanken embarks on a revision of its strategy and will be working on several new ambitious initiatives. The Deans are key members of the business school’s leadership team, providing academic leadership, and contributing to strategy, operations, and to internal and external stakeholder engagement. The Dean of Education has the overall responsibility for the Bachelor and Master’s programmes of the School, and serves as the Chair of the Educational Council. The Dean of Research has the overall responsibility for the PhD programme and the research activities of the School and serves as the Chair of the Tenure Track Committee. The Deans will play key roles in the development and implementation of the revised strategy of the School within their areas of responsibility. The appointees will hold PhD qualifications in a relevant business discipline with demonstrated scholarship. The successful external candidate will be offered tenured appointment in an appropriate discipline in the School and will retain that position at the conclusion of the Deanship. The appointees are expected to devote a minimum of 50 percent of their time to their Deanship roles (the exact percentage to be agreed with Rector), the rest being devoted to teaching, research and outreach as part of their faculty roles.
